Cairn University’s School of Education is offering free English lessons for adult learners starting January 2018. Classes will take place Wednesday evenings at Cairn University’s Langhorne campus from 6:30-8:30 pm. Participants can elect one of three tracks based on proficiency level; childcare will be provided. Those interested in taking a class this January can register and purchase textbooks online at cairn.edu/ESL.
Classes will be taught by Marika Ravin, Assistant Professor in the School of Education, will be teaching Cairn’s ESL Community Program classes. “English is a language that enables people from diverse language backgrounds to effectively communicate with each other. It opens the door to many opportunities on a personal, educational, cultural, and financial level,” states Prof. Ravin. “It gives people confidence and independence, and helps protect them from being taken advantage of. Through this community language program, we hope to provide students with the English skills they need to live and thrive in American society.”
Prof. Ravin teaches Linguistics and Language Learning, English Grammar and Pronunciation, and Foundations of Teaching Language Learners in the School of Education at Cairn University. She has been teaching English Language Learners in various capacities since 2001, ranging from kindergarten age to graduate school students. In recent years, she has expanded her focus on equipping educators specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to include those also interested in working with English Language Learners. One of her career goals is to establish a thriving ESL/EFL program. Visit cairn.edu/ESL for more information and to register for January classes.
